TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Engineer Certificate – Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
Course objective
The course will equip participants with the knowledge for understanding and mastering the application, principles and requirements of IEC 61508 – Functional safety of electrical / electronic / programmable electronic safety systems and IEC 61511 – Functional Safety: Safety Instrumented Systems for the Process Sector.
By passing the exam, the participants will achieve the FS Engineer (TÜV Rheinland) SIS certification.
Course description
The course will provide three days of classroom tuition and practical guidance, mixed with practical exercises based on real life examples. Day four consists of a four-hour two-part proficiency examination with: Part 1 = 60 multiple-choice questions Part 2 = 10 multiple part questions.
Who should attend?
Electro Engineers, Instrument Engineers, Process Engineers, Safety Engineers, who are involved with different phases of the Functional Safety Lifecycle: Hazard and Risk Assessment, Design, Installation, Commissioning, Validation, Operation, Modification and Maintenance phase.

Prerequisite for the course (with certificate)
Engineer education or equivalent experience and responsibilities as certified by employer or engineering institution and a minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in the field of functional safety.
The education must be documented. It is TÜV Rheinland that decides, whether the participant can obtain a certificate pending on their experience and exam result.
